We have 35 years’ experience hunting moose, bear, deer, and turkey, plus fishing on a stalked private lake. Mike Harrison along with wife Darlene are the proud "Owner/Manager/Guide" team, in one of the best known hunting and angling areas of Ontario. They have many acres to explore, situated across from Kushog Lake in Algonquin Highlands, a short drive from Algonquin Park. This property have been passed on through four generations now, and has always been the focus of providing some of the best hospitality, and fun experiences you can expect in this remote setting. People who love nature and being out in the outdoors, truly appreciate what Mike and Darlene have to offer. Mike, who breathes, eats and sleeps with hunting always on his agenda is continuing the legacy of his father and grandfather, passing on his passion to others. How it all Started!!!

Mike Relates this story: The hunt camp was originally the family farm owned by my great grandfather Sam Crawford. The log cabin was built in 1911, and my grandfather Elmer was born in 1919. This parcel of land consisted of 105 acres, abutting up to 2200 acres of crown land and through the years we have attained permissions to hunt another 400 acres of private land.

In 1953 Elmer started a hunt club named Crawford Hunt Camp. It was mostly deer hunting as there was no moose season yet in this area. With many successful hunts, and the enjoyment of the rustic setting, the cabin became a great place to hunt for Elmer’s friends. My father Ron Harrison married Joan, Elmer’s daughter and thus they were given the farm as a wedding gift. The property abuts up to a 50 acre lake which is semi private as it backs onto crown land; there are canoes and boats there to enjoy some fine fishing. This lake is stocked with Northern Pike and Large Mouth Bass.

My father took over the hunt camp in 1985 renting it out to former hunters of my grandfathers with great success. In 1992 we started moose hunting at the camp and that is when I took over guiding for my father. Since 1992 we have shot 47 moose and more than double that in the harvesting of deer. Had exceptional success in past years for deer where we shot over 31 deer, very exciting.

Turkey season opened in WMU 54 & 56 a few years ago and we have filled our tags every year. The marshes and swamps attract the ducks and geese when migrating south. Whether moose, deer, turkey or water fowl hunting there is always success and lots of laughs.

We have now opened up to the public, now operating as "Hardwoods & Swamps Outfitters" and we want to encourage young and old to bring their friends and family to continue and pursue our privilege to hunt and fish.
